ELI stands at the edge of a vest field, the sun setting behind him, casting a golden glow over the landscape. He looks out, eyes filled with determination and wonder. MARA watched ELI with a mix of frustration and concern.
ELI: You know, they all say I’m a fool. Chasing rainbows, they callit. A dreamer lost in a world of fantasies. But what do they know? (Pause)
They’ve never felt the thrill of the chase, the promise of something extraordinary just beyond the horizon. Every time I see a rainbow, my heart races. (Pause)
It’s like a beacon, calling me to something greater, something magical. I can almost hear it whispering my name urging me to follow, to believe. And I do. (Pause)
I believe with every fiber of my being that there’s somethingout there, waiting for me. It’s not just about the pot of gold, you see. It’s about the journey, the adventure, the hope that keeps me going. Each step I take, each challenge I face, brings me closer to understanding who I am and what I’s capable of. (Pause)
Maybe I’ll never find the end of the rainbow. Maybe it’s just a myth, a story to keep dreamers like me changing shadows. But even if that’s true, I’d rather spend my life chasing rainbows than standing still, never knowing what could have been. (Pause)
So, call me a fool if you must. But I’ll keep chasing, keep dreaming, keep believing. Because in the end, it’s not about finding the rainbow’s end. It About the endless quest, the journey that shapes us, and the dreams that keep our hearts alive.
MARA steps closer, her frustration evident.
MARA: ELI, you and your rainbows. Always chasing after something that isn’t there. Do you ever stop to think about what you’re really chasing? You’re running after illusions, dreams that vanish the moment you get close.
ELI: (more determined) And what if those dreams are what keeps me alive, MARA? What if they’ve the only thing that makes life worth living?
MARA: (Skeptical) I used to admire your passion, your unwavering belief in the impossible, but now, I see it for what it is-a distraction. Away to avoid facing reality. Life isn’t a fairy tale, ELI. It’s hard, and it’s messy, and somethingness, it’s downright cruel.
ELI: (Softly) Maybe. But isn’t it worth it to believe in something more? To hope for something better?
MARA looks at ELI with a hint of vulnerability.
MARA: (Pauses, expression softening) But then again, maybe I’m the one who’s been running. Running from my own dreams, my own desires. Maybe I’ve been so focused on what’s practical and safe that I’ve forgotten what it feels like to believe in something bigger than myself.
ELI was surprised by the shift tone. Takes a deep breath, voice filled mix of hope and uncertainty.
MARA: Maybe... maybe there’s something to your madness after all. Maybe chasing rainbows isn’t about finding the end, but about the journey, the hope, the possibility. Maybe it’s about daring to dream, even when the world tells you not to. (Pause)
So, ELI, if you’ve will take a chance on the impossible, maybe Ican too. Maybe we can chase those rainbows together and see where the journeys take us. Because in the end, isn’t that what life is all about? The chase, the dreams, the endless quests for something more.
The rainbow fades as night approaches. Stand together, looking out at the horizon.
ELI: (Smiling) Together,then?
MARA: (Comforting) Together.
Theywalk off into the distance, united in their quest for something greater
